Music Together Waterloo-Wellington Region
Our Teachers

All of the teachers at Music Together of Kitchener-Waterloo are passionate about music and children - and most imporantly, about supporting your child's musical journey. During their classes, they create a fun, informal, musically rich social setting that supports the varied learning styles of both children and adults.

Jodie Fera, BMus., B Ed., Director, Certification level I Instructor

I discovered Music Together® in 2000 as a mom attending classes with my eldest daughter. I was so impressed with everything Music Together had to offer, that I wanted to become an instructor. Having been a classroom teacher, the shift to becoming a Music Together instructor seemed like a natural one, especially being the mother of two young children myself, at the time. I love how fun the program is, yet so impressively educational, and the respect Music Together pays to a child's natural learning process is extraordinary. The quality of this program was far too great to be kept a secret, which lead to my opening of the first Ontario centre in January 2003.

Charlene Neuman, BA, B Ed., Certification level I Instructor

When I first began attending Music Together with my daughter in 2004, I was amazed to find a program of such impressive richness and quality. In class and at home, Music Together tapped into a love for music that had been with me throughout my life, and allowed me to revel in th delight that it brought to my children! I have always believed in the power of music to shape experience, so that whether I was learning, performing, or teaching, music was very much a part of my personal and professional life. As an elementary school teacher, I used music extensively to support learning, and was always attacted to vibrant, research-based teaching that celebrated individual learning styles and strengths. Music Together seemed to offer just that. I also have the the opportunity to co-ordinate and teach infant, toddler, preschool and family programs...It is a privilege to bring these two passions - music and children - together.

Owen Bloomfield, MMus., Instructor

I discovered Music Together in 2006 when I brought my daughter to class. What appealed to me was the natural, honest philosophy of simply making music - no tricks, just a desire to create music and have fun. The music blends perfectly into our everyday lives and it has been a joy to watch our children musically develop, through such a well researched program. I knew I had to be a part of it. I havea Master of Music in composition and have had my music performed in Canada and the U.S. I teach private music privately, and am the Director of Music for a church in Guelph. Music Together for me, is a way of filling out the spectrum of music in our community, from infants to amateurs to seasoned professionals. Music Together recognizes that music is a birthright, and I am happy to be a part of an organization that takes this seriously. Music is for everyone!

Taryn McKinnon, BMT, MTA, Instructor

Music has always been a major part of my life. I grew up playing piano, cello and acting out Gilbert and Sullivan musicals with my sister. I was encouraged to consider music therapy as a career which combined my love of music and working with children perfectly. I earned my Honours Bachelor of Music Therapy with a Major in Psychology and am an accredited Music Therapist since 2003. I use cello, guitar, piano and voice in my lessons. I have worked with children with a wide variety of abilities, diagnoses and have a special interest in music as it links to language development.

I came to Music Together when my eldest son was a toddler and got hooked. The philosophy of the program, with it's foundation of research, combined with music I loved to hear over and over (and over!) again on long car rides, all played a roled. The many ways this program brings music into the family home, and beyond, is inspiring to me. I feel it's important to never lose the aspect of play and fun! I enjoy the energy I inherit when working with children.

Kristin Moore, B ed., Instructor

I was introduced to Music Together when my son was just a toddler. I have seen first-hand how early exposure to music can shape a child. My little guy is now a guitar and drum playing rock star, who  loves to create his own lyrics to songs he hears on the radio! What I loved most about our Music Together class time, was the natural bonding that occurs between us as we sing, dance and play together. Music classes were so much fun and provided a wealth of ideas and songs that we re-created at home.

I have over 15 years experience as an elementary school teacher. Most recently, I taught primary core French, where I always incorporated music, movement and dance. It's such a great way to learn!

I grew up singing in choirs, taking dance lessons and playing the flute. As an adult, I've begun guitar lessons and I sing with our church praise band.

Sarah DeHart, Instructor

I first learned about Music Together on the playground! It was recommended to my by a mom, with rave reviews. After our very first class, I knew we had found something special! Over the years since, it has been a joy to watch our children learn from and reveal all the layers that go into this inspiring program.

I have been playing piano for most of my life. I began my studies through the Royal Conservatory of Music, including the History of Music, Harmony, Composition and Performance. I furthered my studies with choral music, jazz and musical theatre. I attended Victora Conservatory of Music where I discovered my love of orchestral conducting, continuing my pursuit of classical performance.

Music has moved along with me through the years in such a  way that when I look back, my favourite moments are always accompanied by a familiar song or melody. In this way, I think music is such an important part of us all!
